In a word, glorious.
Saturday I went back to Toledo (Sylvania actually) to visit a friend of mine who asked me to come play golf. This was not your ordinary invitation because we played at a country club that I belonged to as a kid. I haven't played Highland Meadows in over 15 years and I miss it. Sometimes I have dreams at night about plying the course and I remember, quite vividly each hole on the course and even the houses that line the fairway. Like I said, I miss it.
Playing the course again--walking down each hole was like Christmas Day. Imagine something you used to do all the time, or a place that you loved to visit and going back for the first time in 15 years. It was a beautiful crisp fall day, the colors were spectacular, and we were about the only people on the course.
I could go on and on, but I won't bore you with the details. All I can say is, that Saturday afternoon was in a word, glorious. It was a day I will remember for a very long time. Who knows when I will ever have the chance to go back and play that great course. If I never step foot on it again, I had a great last day in the sun there.

Nice post... Playing your "home" course after years of not doing so is soooo special. Damn. Non-golfers just could never understand this one.

It doesn't rank with the birth of my first child or my wedding day, but it was real close ;-)

Never admit that again. What if your wife or first child sees it?

HAHA! I only have one child and my wife reads my blog daily. I'll take my chances--I can take her easily!! Honestly though, she knows it was a big day for me but that the birth and wedding were bigger!
(I think.....let me think about that...hehe)

Ah Toledo...my old stomping ground. Didn't golf back then..so sad. As far as your comment on my blog, no it is in Grand Rapids. Been gone from Toledo for almost 20 years..but my family is all still there so I go back often. So glad that you had a nice day...although you failed to mention your s-c-o-r-e. :) when did you live there?

I don't play golf but my Dad does.
I can relate to this after listening to my Dad describe various golf courses and all the fun he had playing.
