Oh Red,
You are forthright and blunt to the point of offense sometimes but that is the way I like you.
LOL Probably because I'm the same way. We've all got a thing or two to learn about the communication medium of blogging.
I'll tango with ya anytime- but you better be wearing that kilt.

Its true, you meet great people online and through blogging. Im also a people person thou, i like to talk to people one on one compared to the phone, i love to hear voices, ect. I also "censor" my blog too as you can tell. Even in my livejournal where i write my deeper thoughts, i still do it artistically so its not too revealing or deep.

Whether you choose to be blunt or not will have to do with your personality, but how people will take it is a different issue. Part of it will have to do with what you say. Another part of it will have to do with how you are perceived by the reader. And that may have nothing to do with the comment.

If I posted things anonymously, the reaction I would get would be much different. In a sense, I am being anonymous, but there is a continuum. If I posted with no name, some folks who agree with most of my comments would tear me apart for some of my others.

Ultimately, being blunt is not the issue. The real issue is coming across the way you expect to come across, and getting people to see and understand your point even if they disagree with you. It's not always easy. But you should blog for yourself, and if others like it, so much the better. That's not saying that you shouldn't care what others think; it should not be your driving force, but in life, how you come across is an important factor when it comes to relationships and that's not a bad thing. But it's a lot easier to have a relationship with somebody when you see eye to eye, or at least respect an opposing viewpoint.

You know, you're just you. No one else. I've always enjoyed reading your blog, even though I sometimes can't take the time to comment. If anyone else has a problem, let them be. I certainly have had my share of friends online -- and some who I gave up on -- but that's the same in "real life" too! Just keep on dancin'.

Hey Apples! Don't let a few bad ones spoil it for the rest of us! There are blogs and then there are blogs like yours, the kind that make people think and laugh and smile and groan out loud when they read it. I've been reading yours for... hmmm, about a year now, and it along with a small handful have remained on my list of must read daily! So your doing something right.
Now, put on your red shoes and dance! No jigs please!

Internet friendships can be very interesting. It is easy for feelings to get hurt especially because so much of our communication is through tone and body language and not just the words we say. I am a particularly sarcastic person so I have all kinds of trouble with this. Still, I have made internet friendships an important part of my life and many of them have turned into "real life" friendships that have been very important to me.

You say that you refrain from posting your truest feelings here. I can understand that because doing so opens you up to attack. There will always be people who have nothing better to do than to attack others. Still, I know that I, for one, would really like to hear what you have to say about things even if you disagree with me. People can still like each other even if they disagree on stuff. I still like you even though I often disagree with you on things since I am way more to the left than you are politically.

I am a regular reader of your blog and have been for a long time. I havent had a whole lot of time for blog reading lately since I am in California which is why I have only just seen this post. I am sure you can understand that. ;)

I think we have all experienced the frustration that you speak of here - from both ends. It can be irritating and even hurtful, but the bottom line, as you have said, it is just a consequence of this type of communication... but then again, I suppose all forms have pros and cons, don't they? :)

Regarding your take: I doubt that I have ever seen it expressed as eloquently and articulately or accurately as you have done here. Your assessment hit the key issues directly on the head. Once more, I think your response is probably the most healthy and productive stance any one who is part of an online community can take.

As always... well done!
